Utrecht University is a large and broad university with strong societal engagement. It aims to be at the forefront of the transition to open science and scholarship. With strong support of its University Library, it pushes for open access and open licenses.

In DIAMAS, the main contribution of Utrecht University and its subcontractor Sesame Open Science lies in the conceptualisation of elements of the institutional publishing landscape and in the landscape study, in particular survey data management and analysis of results. It also uses its network, especially that in the low countries, to involve stakeholders in the goals of DIAMAS.

This topic holds a central position in the priorities of the DIAMAS Project. The webinar, organised by SPARC Europe, provides an insightful overview of the multifaceted aspects of financial sustainability within institutional Diamond OA publishing. It draws on the results of extensive research amongst hundreds of institutional publishers and service providers through surveys, interviews and focus groups. WEBINAR: Navigating Europe’s Institutional Publishing Landscape (07.02.24)
(Recorded 20/06/23) Three projects. Over 40 partners. One goal: Community-led Open Scholarly Publishing. EU projects CRAFT-OA, DIAMAS, and PALOMERA are working for an equitable future for scholarly communication, with academic communities at the centre. In the webinar, participants were introduced to each project and their individual aims. Following this, discussion focused on how, despite their separate focus areas, their efforts work towards a broad and common vision for a more open and equitable scholarly publishing ecosystem. CRAFT-OA empowers regional journal platforms and publishing service providers to upscale, professionalise, and reach stronger interoperability with other scientific information systems, by providing services and tools. The DIAMAS project is developing common standards, guidelines and practices to build capacity for the Diamond publishing sector. Formulating recommendations of this kind aims to create a more sustainable future for OA Diamond Publishing in Europe. PALOMERA has set out to provide actionable recommendations and concrete resources to support and coordinate aligned funder and institutional policies for Open Access books.
