Open Consultation: Refining the Extensible Quality Standard in Institutional Publishing (EQSIP)

One of the key initiatives within the DIAMAS project is the development of the Extensible Quality Standard in Institutional Publishing (EQSIP). We are happy to announce that the new version of EQSIP is nearing completion, set to be finalised in the coming weeks.

The EQSIP has evolved through two significant stages. Its initial iteration, the Extensible Quality Standard in Institutional Publishing (EQSIP) V1.0, was crafted in April 2023. This first version was assembled based on the IPSP Best Practices: an integration of quality evaluation criteria, best practices, and assessment systems tailored for Institutional Publishing Service Providers. This involved an exhaustive analysis of existing standards, evaluation criteria, guidelines, and recommendations considered pertinent to institutional publishing. A GAP analysis between EQSIP V1.0 and current institutional publishing practices was conducted.

To ensure the robustness of the forthcoming second version, we are launching an open consultation to engage and hear the voice of the community. You can engage in this process:

This topic holds a central position in the priorities of the DIAMAS Project. The webinar, organised by SPARC Europe, provides an insightful overview of the multifaceted aspects of financial sustainability within institutional Diamond OA publishing. It draws on the results of extensive research amongst hundreds of institutional publishers and service providers through surveys, interviews and focus groups. WEBINAR: Navigating Europe’s Institutional Publishing Landscape (07.02.24)
(Recorded 20/06/23) Three projects. Over 40 partners. One goal: Community-led Open Scholarly Publishing. EU projects CRAFT-OA, DIAMAS, and PALOMERA are working for an equitable future for scholarly communication, with academic communities at the centre. In the webinar, participants were introduced to each project and their individual aims. Following this, discussion focused on how, despite their separate focus areas, their efforts work towards a broad and common vision for a more open and equitable scholarly publishing ecosystem. CRAFT-OA empowers regional journal platforms and publishing service providers to upscale, professionalise, and reach stronger interoperability with other scientific information systems, by providing services and tools. The DIAMAS project is developing common standards, guidelines and practices to build capacity for the Diamond publishing sector. Formulating recommendations of this kind aims to create a more sustainable future for OA Diamond Publishing in Europe. PALOMERA has set out to provide actionable recommendations and concrete resources to support and coordinate aligned funder and institutional policies for Open Access books.
